LOCAL PROJECT ACTIVITIES - BULGARIAN SPORT AND GAMES
Students had to look for information, read and make presentations about games which were popular in the past and their grand parents and parents played, when they were little. We had lessons about these games and then played some of them in the school yard or in the park.
We have a traditional game that has been around for thousands of years, and is played by children all over the world. It is called 'Blind man’s buff'( Сляпа баба) -'Sliapa baba'in Bulgarian.
The Bulgarian folklore has got a wide range of outdoor games for older kids. One such game popular all across Bulgaria is Thread the Needle ( Kralio-Portalio Game) in Bulgarian (Кральо Портальо)
Another popular game is 'Hide-and-seek'- a game in which one player closes eyes, while counting to 100 and the other players hide. The seeker then opens his/ her eyes and tries to find the hiders. In Bulgarian the game is called 'Криеница' or ''Жмичка or ' Жуменка'
Students liked the Dodgeball- a team sport,in which players on two teams try to throw balls and hit opponents, while avoiding being hit themselves.
They played also 'Drop the Handkerchief', 'Jump Rope', 'Hop Scotch' and some more.
Students looked for information and made presentations about the ABC of Sport and their favourite sport. They also made presentations, showed videos and photos of their participation in different sport activities during the project years.
Going to the park and hiking in the mountains were always great activities for most of the students.
In winter the gym was the best place for playing favourite games.
